Target Training a Cat

Teaching a cat (or dog) to follow a target stick is a safe way to interact if that animal is uncomfortable with human hands, whether it’s to touch them, pick them up, etc. This cat didn’t like to be picked up, so putting her back in her condo when her daily roaming time was up became tricky! With this method, we were able to get her to jump back into her condo on her own, without stressing her out or putting anyone at risk of being scratched/bitten.

These are clips from 2016, when I worked at Chester County SPCA.
